EVANSTON — The Lady Red Devils will have their plates full this weekend with two top-five opponents coming to town in Natrona tonight and Kelly Walsh on Saturday afternoon.

These two games mark the finale to the regular season for EHS volleyball as regionals will get underway next Friday, Oct. 25, and will continue on to Oct. 26.

The past five years, the Lady Red Devils have gone into regionals knowing that they would be advancing to state regardless of how they performed – the top two seeds from the regular season automatically advance.

Though the season hasn’t ended yet, that likely won’t be the case this year. Kelly Walsh currently stands atop the 4A West with a 7-1 conference record. Riverton is second at 6-3, and Natrona is third at 5-3.

EHS currently is fourth at 4-4, ahead of Rock Springs and Green River. Even with two wins this weekend, EHS would need Riverton to lose its final conference game against Rock Springs to pull into a tie at 6-4.

There is also Natrona, which plays its final conference game against Green River on Saturday, a team that has won just one game, conference or otherwise, all season.

Without an automatic bid to state likely awaiting the Lady Red Devils, they will have to fight and claw for the right to make the trip to Casper.

“I think that might be just as well,” EHS head coach Tera Lawlar said. “That means that we’ll have to earn it, and we’ll know that we deserve it.”
