Armando Robert Canales

Armando Robert Canales, 44, of Evanston, passed away on July 20, 2013.

He was born in Sacramento, Calif. Armando, also known by his friends as “Kali,” graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento, and later served in Kuwait as part of Operation Desert Shield, from 1990-1991. While in training to be redeployed, he was injured and received a combat medal upon medical discharge.

He was well known for his youthful spirit, energetic and fun personality, and unconditional heart. As the oldest of five children, Armando was a caring big brother and protector of his four sisters. He loved his family and took great pride in the accomplishments of his son, Armando Michael Canales.

He was quick to help others in need, and his door and heart were always open to those who needed someone to lean on.

Armando is survived by his parents, Armando Milo Canales and Maxine and Corey Bye; his four sisters, Anjel Villalobos, Noelle Musungu, Jessica Mallard and Vanessa Bye; his son, Michael; his dear friend, Mindy Dodge; his four nieces, Taylor Wright, Myla Villalobos, Ashlynn Bench and Kerrington Mallard, as well as his nephew, Kaidan Mallard.

A mass was conducted on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Evanston. He is going to be laid to rest in California next to his grandparents. God, we give you our son and our brother. Let him rest in peace.
