EVANSTON — Evanston’s gearing up for a bubblin’ Brew…Fest, that is! Evanston’s fifth annual Brew Fest is fast approaching, with this year’s event slated for Saturday, July 20, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the historic Depot Square.

Things will be run a little differently — and hopefully more efficiently — this year. All of the beer vendors, with their various brews, will be set up in a 21 and over only “beer garden,” keeping the downtown area events more family-friendly. Over 60 brews will be offered for tasting in the garden area.

Main Street will still be home to live music, unique vendors and a variety of food options. And, of course, one of the main events — the adult Big Wheel races — will begin at 2 p.m., with sign-up starting at 1 p.m., and will once again head down 10th Street.

Evanston’s Police Department will ensure safe crossing on 10th Street for patrons, and will have the downtown area blocked off for the fest. The folks at Uinta Health and Hospice are adding a new facet to ensure revelers’ safety by offering shuttle rides to and from the event to the hotels in town. Donations would be appreciated for the service.

BrewFest is a fundraising event for the Main Street/Urban Renewal and Roundhouse Restoration. Funds that are raised help with projects like the flowers downtown, and sponsoring the downtown concerts this year, as well as larger projects for the Roundhouse and Evanston’s Main Street. Urban Renewal would like to thank all those who have participated and helped with this year’s event planning and preparation.

“I’m always happy to see the folks that come back every year,” BrewFest event coordinator Jane Law told the Herald. “And they do come back. We have some of the same vendors that have been coming for five years. The breweries come back. They all come back and have a good time in Evanston.”

Tickets can be purchased online at www.evanstonbrewfest5.eventbrite.com. All day passes are $25 in advance, and $30 at the gate.
