EVANSTON — Local residents will have an opportunity to see and purchase a variety of beautiful, handmade crafts and edible goodies at a special fundraiser to benefit the Sexual Assault and Family Violence Task Force on Thursday, June 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Evanston Machine Shop.

The task force has been collecting donated craft items for several months for the event.

“We’re getting wonderful donations from lots of people,” Teresa Odell, who is coordinating the event for SAFV, told the Herald. “This is a first for us, so it is an experiment. Hopefully, it will be an ongoing event.”

Odell listed a variety of unique, handmade items that will be for sale, or will be raffled or sold through a silent auction during the event. Many of the items were crafted by talented members of the local Western Clovers 4-H Club.

“Everything that we’re selling is new or has been handmade — it is not a garage sale at all,” Odell said. “We will have some beautiful quilts and even some paintings.”

Admission to the event is only $1, which includes a raffle ticket. Additional tickets can be purchased at the rate of six for $5.

“The way we’re going to do our raffle is, if you win, you pick out what you want,” Odell noted.

Homemade cookies and lemonade will also be served at the event, and Odell said there will be a number of free items available.

Odell added that SAFV — which provides services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault within Uinta County, including maintaining a shelter — has suffered substantial budget cuts, just as most area agencies have during the ongoing economic downturn. She said their budget has been cut 8 percent two years in a row, and they are hopeful the “Inspirations of Women” event will help provide much-needed operational funding.
