Ray J. Orton

Ray J. Orton was the second of twins born at St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He was born April 9, 1956, the son — and one of seven children — to Howard and Leona Orton. He took his last breath at University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, surrounded by family.

Ray grew up in north Odgen, and graduated in 1974 from Weber High School. He eventually relocated and made his home in Evanston. In 1986, he met Gloria Gil. Together, they raised three children: Jenney, Rex and Rosemary. They officially married on Jan. 3, 1996.

Ray was a jack-of-all-trades. He spent the majority of his career in security, and then as a traffic control supervisor. Ray also had many hobbies and interests. He took his family camping, fishing and hunting. He loved to read, listen to music, garden, woodwork, create arts and crafts and spend time with his four grandkids, Isabelle Myia Wilson, Deakin Rex Shay Wilson, Kelton Eugene Simkins and Angel Leigh Simkins.

Ray is survived by his wife, Gloria Gil Orton; his children, Jennifer Wilson, Rex Gil and Rosemary Gil Simkins; his mother, Janette Leona Orton; brothers and sisters Kathleen Orton Manos, his twin brother Jay Orton, Lucy Orton Hall, LouAnn Orton Fisk and Kelly Orton.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Joseph Howard Orton; his sister, Debra Lee Orton; and his brother, James “Big Jim” Orton.

Ray was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, at the LDS church located at 251 Elm St. in Evanston.
