UPDATE: An update from the Evanston Police Department received about 4:50 p.m. noted the incident included an officer-involved shooting [meaning an officer discharged his or her weapon in the line of duty], and was being investigated by the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation.

EVANSTON ó Law enforcement officials are currently investigating a series of events that began about 2:15 p.m. and ended in a shootout on Front Street in front of the Arby's Restaurant.

Scanner traffic at the time of the incident indicated police first responded after a report that a man had fired a weapon at the home of relatives in Evanston. The man then went to Sports World, on Front Street, according to the scanner traffic, where, according to an eyewitness, the man fired a single shot after attempting to rob the store.

A high speed chase ensued, which ended when the vehicle the man was driving, a white Ford Explorer, collided with an unmarked police vehicle in front of the Arbyís restaurant on Front Street, just west of the Interstate 80 interchange.

Shots fired during the altercation with police officers struck at least one nearby business before the man was subdued, who is believed to have been hit during the exchange.

The manís condition is currently unknown.

"The Evanston Police Department and Uinta County Sheriff's Department wants to assure the community there is no further threat in regard to this incident," an initial release from the EPD said.

The Herald is awaiting further information from the Evanston Police Department on the incident.
