EVANSTON — Red Devils track and field traveled to Lander on Saturday to compete in the Shane Brock Invitational, in their final tune-up before the regional track meet taken place at Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper, with Kelly Walsh the host team for the 4A West Conference regional track meet this Friday and Saturday. Harry Geldien Stadium will also be the host site for the Wyoming State Championship Track meet, May 16-18. A recent story highlighted pre-qualifiers on a countywide basis for the state meet, including Brinae Sanders in the long jump and triple jump, Kortney Freeland in the 100 meter hurdles and Jessica Sepos in the high jump for the girls, with Cole Wilkinson in the shot put and Dane Kelly as a pole vaulter, for the guys. Red Devils track and field head coach, Ryan Berger, reported he had many on the cusp of qualification, at that time, and that is still the case, with certain athletes inching ever so close.
How close? Brayton Sanders clocked a time of 15.84 seconds in Lander running the 110 meter hurdles, with the 4A state-qualifying standard set at 15.81 seconds, leaving Sanders .003 of a second away. For the complete article see the 05-07-2013 issue.
