Luella (Walker) Whetzell

Mary Luella (Walker) Whetzell passed away in Ogden, Utah, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Luella was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Edward James and Minnie (Forman) Walker. Following the untimely passing of her mother in 1947, Ed married Pearl (Hale) Walker. The oldest of 10 children, Luella had seven brothers and two sisters.

She was raised in Lyman and attended Lyman High School. Luella married Robert (Bob) Whetzell April 10, 1954. Luella and Bob lived in California, where her children were born, as well as Nevada and Nebraska, eventually returning home to her beloved Wyoming. They later divorced, but always remained important in one another’s lives.

Lue, as many knew her in later years, had many interests. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as sewing, quilting and crocheting. English and grammar were her passions, always remembering the tutelage of her favorite teacher of her youth.

Beyond being a mother, she was always a friend to her children, who she said were her greatest interest.

She loved everything about Wyoming, including “her Tetons.” Music was a constant in her life that brought happiness, gave her strength and provided peace at all of the right times. She loved family history, her cats, crossword puzzles, Celtic lore and culture and, above all, spending time with her friends and family.

Luella is survived by her two children, Kristy and Randy Whetzell; siblings Kay (Katie) Walker, Lauralee (Larry) Youngberg, Milton (Darlene) Clark, Kyle (Beverly) Walker, Janeen (Les) Anson, Russell (Susan) Walker and Milo (Janeil) Walker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Robert (Bob) Walker, Alma Ross Clark; and the man she always loved, Robert (Bob) Whetzell.

Funeral services were held at the LDS church in Lyman on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Interment followed at the Lyman City Cemetery.
