Phillip (Phil) Edwin Wallwork

Phillip (Phil) Edwin Wallwork, 77, lost a long and valiant battle with cancer at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev., in the early morning of March 13, 2013.

Phil was born August 18, 1935, the fourth of five children to Edwin and Emma Burton Wallwork. He had numerous memories from his childhood of the great time on the family ranch on the upper Bear River, south of Evanston, with his three older sisters and younger brother. Later, the family moved to “town” and he attended school. Phil graduated from Evanston High School’s Class of 1953.

Phil married the love of his life, Delores (Dee) Weddle, in 1964. Phil and Dee are proud of their family: Janet, Jeff and James E. Wallwork, all of Reno, and two grandchildren, Michael and Tiffany.

While in Evanston, they ran a successful cafe, The Ranch Cafe, on Front Street. The family moved to Reno in 1989. Phil liked to keep busy, and was a productive man with many skills, such as locksmith, maintenance supervisor and carpenter. He was loved by all his neighbors and everyone he met.

Phil loved children, and they loved him. Phil was gifted as a poet, and wrote cowboy poetry. Phil was actually working on the day of his passing, and was able to enjoy his wife’s wonderful home cooking before suffering a stroke.

Phil is survived by his wife, Dee, and children, all of Reno; his grandchildren; one sister, Lillian (Darreld) Barnes, of Reno; and brother, Mickey (Jan) Wallwork, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Edith (Warren) Bames; sister Laura (Jack) Moon; and his father- and mother-in-law, James and Lois Weddle.

A celebration of his life will be held in Reno on March 23.
