EVANSTON — Dillon Melle gathered with friends and family for his Make-A-Wish going away party at the Evanston Recreation Center Saturday, March 9. Dillon was headed this week to a Nickelodeon Caribbean cruise, courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dillon underwent surgery at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, in March 2012 to remove a tumor about the size of two golf balls found on his brain. The youth suffers from an aggressive form of cancer called medulloblastoma.

A very successful fundraiser spaghetti dinner was held June 25, 2012, to benefit Dillon and his family. And, according to an online blog dedicated to Dillon, the youth was declared cancer-free by doctors in January.

“We would like to thank Make-A-Wish for everything they did to make this possible, and all the support from the community,” Allison Melle, Dillon’s mom, told the Herald.
