Smart to offer keynote at Healthy Woman

EVANSTON — The 2013 Healthy Woman Conference, presented by Evanston Regional Hospital, is set for Saturday March 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature special guest Elizabeth Smart.

Smart will present her story about overcoming adversity. Women will be inspired by her powerful story of recovery after a nine-month abduction, as she retells her story of faith, family and love.

Elizabeth Smart, 25, became a nationally-known figure in June 2002, after she was kidnapped from her home by knife point. Brian David Mitchell took Smart from her home where she was sleeping next to her younger sister, Mary Katherine. Nearly eight months later, Smart was found in Sandy, Utah, and returned to her family.

Since then, “No matter how hard life is, we can move forward, and we can be happy,” Smart said. “It just proves to me every single day that, for as much bad things as we see in the media, as many terrible events that seem to be going on, there are so many more people out there who care, who want good to happen, who want the right things and who are willing to become involved to make that difference.”

Recently, Smart has traveled throughout the United States speaking of her captivity, and how her tragedy could be turned into a positive lesson. Smart said she wants women to walk away “feeling hopeful.”

The Healthy Woman Conference will be held at Davis Middle School, 837 No Name Drive. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the presentation by Smart, followed by breakout sessions and lunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15, and can be purchased at evanstonregionalhospital.com/Healthy Woman, at Evanston Regional Hospital, Evanston Chamber of Commerce, the Uinta County Library or Benedict’s in Mountain View.
