EVANSTON — Mary Evans of Anderson, Calif., made an initial appearance in Uinta County Circuit Court Feb. 25 on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — a knife.
It was alleged Evans knowingly caused serious bodily injury to another with a knife on Feb. 24 in Evanston. Due to the fact the charge is a felony, Evans was not allowed to enter a plea during court proceedings. Instead, Judge Michael L. Greer set bail at $25,000 cash or surety, noting Evans’ lack of connection to the community and prior violent convictions as the reason for the high bail.
A preliminary hearing was set in the case for March 5, and a public defender was requested. Evans told the court she had a prior felony conviction for grievous bodily injury about five years ago in California. Evans was ordered to have no contact with the victim if released from jail on bond.
