Rich Lady Rebels squeak past Panguitch, 41-39 to keep tourney hopes alive

Posted: Friday, Feb 15th, 2013

RICHFIELD, Utah — The second-ranked Rich Lady Rebels narrowly survived an opening round game in the Utah 1A Girls State Basketball Championship tournament in Richfield’s Sevier Valley Center, 41-39, over the fifth-ranked Bobcats of Panguitch on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Emma Peart hit the game-winner for the Lady Rebels, who were taken out of their fast-break style of basketball, as Panguitch was successful in controlling the game’s tempo. The Rebels got off to a good start, scoring more points in the first quarter than they did all of the second half.

The Rebels were led by Peart, senior guard Lynzee Wallentine and senior forward Alyssa Brown. Brown led the team with 12 points, while Alisa Petersen added 11 points. Peart and Wallentine finished with five points each, while Cami Lamborn added six points.

Rich was scheduled to battle Monticello in the Feb. 14 quarterfinals, with results too late for the Herald’s press deadline. Other teams that survived and were scheduled to square off on Thursday included: St. Joseph versus Milford, Escalante versus Layton Christian and Manila versus Piute.
