RANDOLPH — Ruth T. Smith, Rich County treasurer, tendered her resignation to the Rich County Commission at their regularly-scheduled meeting last week. Smith stated in a letter to the commission and Rich County Republican Party officers that she would be resigning her position effective April 30, 2013. Smith plans to serve on an LDS mission with her husband.
State law stipulates that Smith’s replacement be chosen within 30 days by Smith’s political party. The Rich County Republican Constitution states that the county party’s central committee will make the selection.
Cloyd Cornia, Rich County Republican Party chairman, stated, “With Smith’s resignation, the responsibility of choosing her successor falls to the county party central committee. We will be holding a meeting with that body within the next three weeks.”
Cornia noted the voting members of the central committee include the county party chair, vice chair and secretary, county precincts chair and vice chair elected at the county caucus. He added that elected officials who are Republicans in the county are also voting members.
Anyone who wishes to be considered for the replacement must be a registered Republican Party member and be a resident of Rich County. Resume should be sent to Cloyd L.Cornia, Rich County Republican Party Chairman, P.O. Box 280, Woodruff, UT 84086-0280. Or, it can be emailed to email@example.com.
