Ice ponds, ski trails, sledding hill now open

EVANSTON — The Evanston Parks and Recreation District has announced that the BEAR River Greenway Ice Ponds are now open daily for public Ice Skating from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., weather permitting. The ice will be lighted each night from dusk to 10 p.m.

Currently, the natural ice skating surface is over six inches thick, with good to excellent ice skating conditions, rough in spots. Ice skate rentals are also available. For more information and rates, call (307) 789-1770.

Cross country ski trails are open and have been groomed at the Purple Sage Golf Course Nordic Center and Aspen Elementary School. Lily Lake XC Area located 30 miles south of Evanston on the North Slope of the Uinta’s is also open for cross country skiing. Cross country skis and snow shoe rentals are available at the Purple Sage Pro Shop.

The “Buffalo Run” sledding and tubing hill located at the Bear River State Park East of the Travel Information Center is now open for sledding daily from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., weather permitting.
