EVANSTON — Music is always a part of our lives, providing us with pleasure, comfort, fond memories and inspiration. Music often evokes both gentle and powerful feelings that enhance and define our experiences. This is especially true during the holiday season. The airways are filled with the familiar sounds of this time of year, and we line up our favorite Christmas CDs for our various gatherings.

A long-standing tradition in many communities is to provide for a performance of what is considered one of the greatest musical works to celebrate Christmas —Messiah, by George Friderick Handel — and Evanston is no exception. Dedicated local musicians have been hard at work preparing what has become their biennial production of this inspiring masterpiece. Under the direction of Ryan W. North, the members of the chorus have been faithful in their efforts to master this most challenging composition.

Ryan is currently the choral instructor at Park City High School, having earned degrees from the University of Utah and UCLA. He also directed the chorus in its Messiah performance two years ago. As a result of his fine work in our community, he has become much appreciated in Evanston, and is considered an “honorary” resident of our fair city.

In partnership with the Evanston Civic Orchestra, a performance of Messiah will be presented to the community at Davis Middle School auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. In addition to local talent and fine leadership, this concert is being made possible by the Uinta BOCES No. 1 Education Center and the Wyoming Arts Council. Be prepared not only to be entertained, but inspired, as well.
