Salvation Army Red Kettle drive to begin Nov. 23

Salvation Army Red Kettle drive

EVANSTON — Of the many worthy and effective charitable groups in our country, among the oldest and perhaps most readily recognized is the Salvation Army.

The Uinta County Ministerial Association, which is also the Uinta County Service Extension Unit for the Salvation Army, has worked each year to keep this charity present and active in Uinta County for nearly 20 years. The association will once again hold its annual Red Kettle Drive beginning Nov. 23 with the presence of apron-clad bell ringers at Walmart and Smith’s in Evanston.

The program is maintained solely by volunteers, and 100 percent of the funds raised are applied to the needs of persons in Uinta County. In the past year, nearly 200 families and individuals have received assistance from the funds raised by the faithful bell ringers, who maintain a presence at the buckets. The funds go to help with housing, utilities, auto repair and gasoline, medical needs and food.

“We are fully aware of the reality of difficult economic times, as the requests for assistance have steadily increased over the past year,” a release from the association said. “This also affects the potential for giving as well. However, we ask that you consider carefully how you might find a few spare coins (or bills!) to slide through the slot in the top of the bucket, so that those less fortunate can get a little boost to carry them through some hard times.”

Residents wishing to volunteer to participate as a bell ringer should contact Roy Walworth at rwalw@allwest.net, or (307) 799-7216.
