David Marcus Nelson, age 89, passed away on Oct. 18 at the South Lincoln Nursing Center in Kemmerer. He was born Aug. 13, 1924 in Kemmerer to Marcus David Nelson and Mary Jane (Clark) Nelson.
He married Constance Marie (Vallone) Nelson on Nov. 15, 1945. They had six children.
Dave was raised on a ranch in Opal. He later returned to Kemmerer and ran his own sheep outfit.
Later in life, he owned Nelson Realty. He was active in local and state politics and served as the president of the Wyoming Wool Grower’s Association, Mayor of the Town of Kemmerer, and on the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission.
Dave was also a member of the one-shot antelope club in Lander. He was also appointed to the Wyoming Highway Department by governor Ed Hirschler.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Connie, and sons David R. (Jeanne) Nelson, Michael E. (Vickie) Nelson, all of Kemmerer, and daughters Judy Hankin of Evanston and Linda (Orval) Taylor, of Maybell, Colo. He is also survived by one brother, Edward F. Nelson of Murray, Utah, by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two infant children and two brothers, Robert Nelson and George Huddleston.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Kemmerer LDS Stake Center on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted by Bishop Paul Kaiser at 11 a.m. at the Kemmerer LDS Stake Center, with interment at the South Lincoln Cemetery, in Kemmerer.
