Donovan Carl Buckman, 27, of Worland, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Wyoming Medical Center, in Casper, on May 2, 2013, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Donovan was born on Feb. 5, 1986, in Dickinson, N.D., a son of Richard W. and Marcella J. (Kovash) Buckman. He lived at Belfield, N.D., until 1989 when his family moved to Worland. He grew up in Worland and graduated from Worland High School in 2004. While in high school he was active in Future Farmers of American and served as an FFA State Officer following graduation.
Donovan attended Sheridan College from 2004-08, and then he attended the University of Wyoming where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering in 2010.
Donovan married the love of his life, Kelly M. Klements, on June 26, 2010, in Evanston. He then got his dream job at Rocky Mountain Power in Rock Springs. He worked there until he was disabled by cancer. He and Kelly moved back to Worland in February 2013 to be near his family. In the summers, while attending college, he had worked for McClellan-MacQueen Construction and Crown Cork and Seal in Worland, and for Handle IT in Laramie.
He loved the outdoors where he liked to hunt, fish, camp and ride his motorcycle. He also enjoyed building model airplanes, woodworking, playing the guitar, racing his R/C model trucks, and being with family and friends. He was a kind and gentle person.
Donovan’s life was proof of God’s love and his witness of faith inspired others. He showed how far faith and true love can go, and what they can bring you through. When first diagnosed with cancer, he told his mother, “Why not me? If God want to use me, let him use me.” He was a true example of a Christian man.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel W. Buckman in 1996; and by his grandfathers, Lewis Buckman and Donald Kovash.
Donovan is survived by his wife, Kelly Buckman, of Worland; his parents, Richard and Marcy Buckman, of Worland; his brothers, Michael Buckman, of Worland and Jeffrey (Kristin) Buckman, of Casper; his sister, Kimberly Buckman, of Casper; and his grandmothers, Bonnie Buckman, of Belfield, N.D., and Rose Marie Kovash, of Dickinson, N.D. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Casey and Gara Klements, his sister-in-law, Michelle (Todd) Walbridge, and his brother-in-law, Colt Klements, all of Evanston; his niece, Carmyn Buckman, and nephews, Theron Buckman and Drake Walbridge; and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral service for Donovan was held at 10 a.m., on May 6, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, in Worland, with Rev. Lee Rupert officiating.
