Richard “Dick” Harel

Richard “Dick” Harel was born on Oct. 31, 1930, in Ontario, Calif. He was a Californian by birth, but a Wyomingite at heart.

Dick lived his early years in California, where he married, had children, got divorced and served in the U. S. Army in Korea during the Korean War.

While in California, Dick had a variety of jobs. He worked helping harvest the massive fields of California crops when he was younger. He was also a guard for the state of California on some of its chain gangs.

For some time, he worked as a logger in the Redwoods. The tress would be crosscut half way through and then dynamited to fell the tall timber.

In the early 1970s, now a truck mechanic, Dick moved to Fort Bridger from Bakersfield, Calif. He moved to Fort Bridger with JETCO, an oil support company that set up shop there. But when the company moved back to California, Dick stayed.

During the years he lived in Fort Bridger, Dick ran his own auto repair shop in Fort Bridger. Later, he worked for many years in parts and delivery for Covolo Auto-Farm Service.

Dick adopted and was adopted by local families, and lived his life enjoying herding cows on horseback, hunting and packing in by horseback and hunting.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon L. A. Harel, of Port St. Lucia, Fla., and Susan Krone, of Yuba City, Calif.; son Robert Joseph (Joe) Harel, of California; brother Robert (Alice) Harel, of California; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Tamara O. Origar.

Dick’s family would like to thank his many friends and acquaintances who took care of our father and grandfather in Bridger Valley. Thank you for all the years of love and care you showered on him.
