Doreline M. (Kloos) Wabbe, age 84 of Waconia, Minn. passed away Jan. 25 at her home in Waconia. Funeral service will be held Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with Rev. Dave Larsen and Rev. Norman Heidorn officiating; interment in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Waconia.
Doreline was born on July 6, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Julia (Kysilko) Kloos. On March 12, 1945 Doreline was united in marriage to Victor Jared Wabbe in Carver, Minn.
Doreline was a loving mom and grandma, she was a fabulous cook, loved feeding birds, she was an avid Vikings fan, Twins fan and loved tending to her garden. Doreline belonged to the LWML and Seniors for Christ at Trinity.
She attended school in Carver for her first eight years, and then Chaska High School for four years. In high school she played clarinet in the band and later switched to oboe. After graduating from Chaska High School in 1943, Doreline attended the Minnesota School of Business for a year, but gave up her career hopes in 1944 to care for her mother following the onset of Julia’s medical problems.
She was employed at Mr. Q’s in St. Louis Park, Hopkins House in Hopkins. Doreline was always a hard worker. In addition to being a farmer’s wife, she found part-time work as a waitress.
After leaving farm life behind in the 1960s and moving to nearby Waconia, she became a full-time waitress.
When the Chanhassen Dinner theatre opened in 1968, Doreline became one of their first employees and retired around 1991 as their longest-term employee; however, she continued to take occasional “shifts” at the CDT, and finally decided to stop working at age 73 in 1998.
She was subsequently honored at a gala “Doreline Wabbe Retirement Celebration” party given by CDT. Those attending included CDT’s founder, the current owner, the entire professional theatrical staff, many actors, waiters, kitchen and other employees.
Doreline was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Julia Kloos.
She is survived by her loving family; children, John Wabbe of Hutchinson, Minn., Virginia Wabbe and Patrick Rooney of Evanston, Jeanne (Nihat) Cur of St. Joseph, Mich., Victor Wabbe of Waconia; grandchildren Levent Cur, Meral Cur, John and Sarah Wabbe, David Wabbe, John Patrick Rooney, Cameron Rooney, Miles Rooney; brother DuWayne (Joann) Kloos of Golden Valley; sister-in-law Irene Wabbe of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Casket bearers were her grandchildren Levent Cur, Meral Cur, John Wabbe, David Wabbe, John Patrick Rooney, Cameron Rooney, and Miles Rooney.
Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, and Ridgeview Hospice in Waconia. Arrangements have been handled by the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia. Online Condolences to the family are available at johnsonfh.com.
