With just one game remaining in the regular season, the Red Devils look to gain some footing for the 4A conference playoffs next week

EVANSTON — One week ago, the Red Devils football team faced the possibility of a coin flip deciding their playoff fate.

Now, that scenario isn’t completely out of the question, though it is much more unlikely.

With Rock Springs losing to Cheyenne-South for the Bisons’ first-ever 4A conference win in the school’s four-year history, the Red Devil’s playoff future is now much more secure.

The only way EHS’ playoff future would be in jeopardy is in the event that South defeats Sheridan on the road and Rock Springs defeats Natrona County in Casper.

Even though EHS is likely in the playoffs regardless of what happens tonight at home against Cheyenne-Central, the Red Devils would certainly like to come away with their first win of October heading into the postseason. It would also help their playoff seeding by boosting them from a No. 7 seed to a No. 6 seed.

“We could very well already be in anyway, but let’s get a win anyway and finish the season on a winning note and take that into the playoffs,” EHS head coach Pat Fackrell said. “We’re talking about getting a streak going. Get a win so you’re guaranteed a spot.”

Last week, Central put up a fight against a Kelly Walsh team that has been on a tear since defeating cross-town rival Natrona in overtime on Oct. 5.

Though the Indians lost the game 34-26, their receiver Tayton Montgomery was the top pass-catcher across 4A on the week, picking up 182 yards.
