GREEN RIVER — All season long, EHS head coach Ryan Berger has been preaching the necessity that his runners strive to constantly improve themselves as individuals and as a team.

Something must have been sinking in because the boys team finished in second place on Friday, Oct. 18, during the conference tournament in Green River.

Rock Springs finished in first place with 27 points, EHS was next with 55, then Kelly Walsh with 61.

“Our boys showed up, and they took on the challenge,” Berger said. “We told them that nothing matters now except these two weeks.”

Individually, the boys team earned two all-conference runners.

Dillon Gilpin finished in seventh place (17:19.19) followed closely by Jace Richards in 10th place (17:30.50).

Draper Robinson (17:37.69) and Sam Richins (17:43.54) just missed out on all-conference nods as they finished 11th and 12th, respectively.

Andrew Walk finished 15th with a time of 17:49.77. Miles Trujillo was 28th (18:35.88) and Hayden Crofts was 34th (19:13.03).

“They executed their game plan, and they even did better than that,” Berger said. “There are no seniors in that group, and they went in and did something like that. I told the guys, ‘you’re not a JV team, and you’re the same age as all the JV teams. You are running like the varsity athletes you are.’”
