EVANSTON — An array of program firsts for the 2013 edition of Red Devils soccer have been chronicled in the Herald’s sports pages. The first wins over Natrona County and Kelly Walsh, the first sweep of a conference opponent during the conference season, winning both the home and away game against two teams in the same season, consecutive conference victories, climbing as high as third place in the conference standings, four consecutive conference wins, a six-game win streak, the first-ever statewide top-five ranking – all have been noteworthy.

Going into the final weekend of 4A West Conference competition, four teams had a shot at winning the regular season conference title, with the Red Devils among them. Following Friday’s matchups, the field narrowed to three teams. Evanston, following Friday’s 2-1 overtime win against the Tigers in Rock Springs, would close out against Riverton on the road as the Wolverines had eliminated the Green River Wolves from conference season crown contention on Friday. If Riverton or Evanston emerged victorious on Saturday, they would be the regular season champion. If the bout ended in a tie, the Kelly Walsh Trojans would be crowned the conference season champion in the 4A West Conference.
