Red Devils, Lady Devils kick off soccer seasons

Posted: Tuesday, Mar 19th, 2013

WORLAND — The Lady Red Devils and Red Devils soccer programs got their season started this past Saturday, March 16, both heading north to participate in soccer jamborees, but to different communities.

The Red Devils, playing two 40-minute halves against their first opponent in the Worland Jamboree, began with a 1-1 tie to the host Warriors in the morning session. In the afternoon competition, consisting of two 20-minute halves, the Red Devils defeated the Cody Broncs, 1-0, then suffered a 0-2 setback to the Lander Valley Tigers, finishing 1-1-1 for the weekend.

The Lady Red Devils began their season in the Cody Jamboree, playing a pair of 25-minute halves. Evanston tied the Lady Panthers of Powell, 1-1, in their first contest of the season, then lost close 0-1 decisions to both Cody and Pinedale.

Both teams will jump right into 4A Conference competition, along with their junior varsity counterparts this week. Red Devils soccer travels to Casper to battle the Natrona County Mustangs, with JV action at 4 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, following up on Friday with the Kelly Walsh Trojans, just an hour earlier for each, with 3 and 5 p.m. kickoffs.

That means Lady Red Devils soccer will correspondingly be at home against the Casper schools with 3 p.m. junior varsity start times, and 5 p.m. for the varsity squads.

The boys standings are as follows:

4A West

Evanston 1-1-1, 4 points

Kelly Walsh 1-2-1, 4 points

Riverton 0-0-1, 1 point

Rock Springs 0-2-1, 1 points

Green River 0-1, 0 points

Natrona County 0-3, 0 points

And the girls’ pre-season standings shape up this way:

4A West

Natrona County 2-0-1, 7 points

Green River 2-0, 6 points

Kelly Walsh 1-2, 3 points

Rock Springs 1-2, 3 points

Riverton 0-0-1, 1 point

Evanston 0-2-1, 1 point

An in-depth look at both programs, along with previews for this weekend’s competition, will appear in the Friday Uinta County Herald.
