The Mountain View girls basketball team woke up Saturday morning and needed a win over Lander in a win or go home consolation semifinal. One of the teams would be headed for the state tournament in Casper and the season would be over for the other.
The Lady Buffalos made sure their season continued. The Lady Buffs led 25-16 at halftime and held on comfortably for a 54-39 victory over Lander.
Ruthie O’Neal was the only Lander player who hurt Mountain View, scoring 25 of her team’s 39 points.
The Lady Buffs were much more balanced offensively. Stephanie Smith led with 21 points. Ali Lindemood (13) and Tawny Bugas (12) joined Smith in double figures.
Mountain View followed the victory with a 69-66 defeat of Cody in the third-place game. The Lady Buffs will now face Douglas in the first round of the state tournament on Saturday.
