The Evanston girls basketball team has won its only home game so far this season. They put their undefeated home record on the line Saturday night against Rock Springs.
“It should be exciting. Rock Springs is one of the better teams in the state. They play everybody tough,” Deru said. “We have more depth than they do. But they have three solid basketball players and they know how to win. They played in the state championship game last year. They’re finding a way to put the shots in the basket and it’s something they work on.”
Deru said Rock Springs has a very good point guard. He said it is important to contain the point guard and Courtney Patterson.
“If we do a decent job on defense and if we convert the chances that we give ourselves, we can play with anybody in the state,” Deru said. “It’s going to take one time for us to feel the feeling you get from beating a good team with these girls, and I think we’ll just soar from there. Hopefully, playing them at home first and having the emotion and the crowd and playing here for only the second time this year will carry into Saturday and we can get something done against Rock Springs.”
Deru said one of the team’s goals is to go undefeated at home this season.
