EVANSTON — An Evanston restaurant sustained damage yesterday morning after a black GMC Jimmy came crashing through its wall.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. Monday, after the driver, who was heading north into town on Highway 150, drove off the road, over the curb and into the north wall of Rancherito’s, located at 113 Front St.

Evanston Police Lt. Ken Pearson told the Herald that authorities suspect the driver suffered from a medical condition that contributed to the accident and that he was “not seriously hurt.”

The man, whom police had not identified by press time, was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital.

According to Uinta County Fire and Ambulance, no one else was injured in the crash.

The restaurant will have to be closed for repairs, but for how long is uncertain.

“I was standing right there watching the TV and I turned around and it happened,” said one employee of the family-owned business who asked not to be named.

The TV was mounted directly above the door through which the vehicle was driven and flew off the wall upon impact.

The employee said he’s hoping for a speedy re-opening.

“We’re waiting for the construction guys today,” he said.

Debris is scattered all around where the entry door once stood. The table and chairs that were under the window are completely unrecognizable.

The employee expressed concern about the driver’s health after the incident.

“Is he OK?” he asked. “I hope he’s OK.”
