‘Symon Awards’ luncheons set for Evanston, Bridger Valley

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 9th, 2012

Deborah Hochhalter

The Uinta County Business Leadership Network and MentorABILITY programs are proud to announce the 14th annual “Symon Awards” celebratory luncheons, scheduled for Oct. 23 in Evanston and Oct. 24 in the Bridger Valley.

Held each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. In recognition of the national celebration, the UCBLN will host the Symon Awards luncheon.

Deborah Hochhalter, from Green River, and Mike Williams, with the Evanston BOCES No. 1 Education Center, will be the keynote speakers. Hochhalter hails from Casper, where she graduated from high school and then continued on to the University of Wyoming and earned both a BA in psychology in 1999 and a juris doctorate in 2003. She was admitted to the Wyoming State Bar in 2004 and has been an attorney for the state of Wyoming’s Child Support Services in Sweetwater County since 2005. Even though Deborah has faced many challenges due to her disability, she moves forward, recognizing and promoting the tremendous talents she has to offer.

Williams moved to Evanston in May 2004 when he accepted the position of executive director for the Uinta BOCES No. 1 Education Center. Prior to his current position, he was a teacher and high school principal in North Dakota for nine years, a school principal in Wyoming for four years and a school superintendent in Montana for seven years. Williams also spent five years in law enforcement.

He and his staff understand the importance of diversifying the workforce. He will share their experiences in hiring individuals with disabilities.

Residents are invited to attend celebration of National DisAbility Employment Awareness Month and National Mentoring Day on Oct. 23 in Evanston at the Machine Shop, and Oct. 24 in Lyman at the Heritage Barn. Both are luncheon events from noon to 1:30 p.m., with Gateway Grille catering.

Tickets are available at the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, the Bridger Valley Pioneer and the Business Leadership Network office, located at 236 Ninth St. For additional information, contact Wanda Rogers at (307) 783-6302 or wrogers@vcn.com.
