Week of fund-raisers includes pizza, games, rummage sale
The Uinta County Library will sponsor new and exciting fund-raiser activities the week of Feb. 8-12 to raise money for the Library Endowment Challenge.
“Last year, the state legislature passed the Library Endowment Challenge for public libraries in the state where they can start doing fund-raisers to build endowments for each individual county library. The state will put in matching funds depending on the wealth of each county. We are in a middle county so we get a $2-$1 match. Every dollar we raise, the state matches with $2,” said Dale Collum, director of Uinta County Library.
Collum said wealthy counties have a $1-to-$1 match and less wealthy counties have a $3-to-$1 match.
He said the amounts that each county has to raise are different for each level.
“For our county, we have to raise $150,000. With the two-to-one match, we could potentially have $450,000 in an endowment fund for the library. We have about $16,000 raised, which includes donations from some individuals as well as Union Pacific Railroad and Walmart,” Collum said.
Collum said this year they wanted to sponsor fun events to raise awareness in the community about the library and that they are doing fund-raisers.
He said on Feb. 9 they will sponsor a pizza fund-raiser in conjunction with Pizza Hut.
“When people buy a pizza, whether it is dine-in or take-out, Pizza Hut will donate 20 percent of the sales to the library. That will be great if people want to have pizza on Tuesday night and at the same time help support the library,” Collum said.
Collum said on Feb. 10 there will be a bridge and pinochle tournament in the library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a tax-deductible entry fee/donation of $10.
“The participants trade partners throughout the game, so you end up with an individual score rather than a team score,” Collum said.
“The top three winners will get prizes that we have received from Murdoch’s, Legal Tender and Maurices,” Collum said.
Collum said the library will also sponsor door prizes, snacks and beverages for those who attend.
Collum said Feb. 11 will be an exciting evening as they are going to have a miniature golf course set up in the library from 7 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. He said the cost is $3 for kids and $5 for anyone age 16 and up.
“It will be a mini-golf course inside the library. We will have little ramps and tricky corners and angles to putt over and around. It should be lots of fun. If anyone has a favorite putter they want to use, they are welcome to bring it,” Collum said.
Collum said everyone is welcome and an adult must accompany children under 12.
Collum said the end of the week fund-raiser will be an indoor rummage sale from 9 a.m.-2 p. m. He said they will use the two meeting rooms in the library. He said people can rent spaces and tables from the library for $20.
“We have a huge parking lot sale in the summer and thought it would be great to have an indoor rummage sale in the middle of winter for those who need a yard sale fix,” Collum said.
Collum said if someone has non-clothing items they would like to get rid of but they don’t want to have a table, they can donate the items to the library and they will sell them and donate the proceeds to the library foundation.
