The Rich High Lady Rebels ended regular season play with a record of 16-4 for a first place seeding at the Utah State 1A Girls’ Basketball tournament this weekend.

Coach Scott Ferguson was confident but said that they would meet some stiff competition from the Region 15 teams. Piute, Bryce Valley, Panguitch and Wayne were all ranked in the top five behind Rich with similar season records although Rich was undefeated in region contests.

Their losses were all to larger schools at season openers with the exception of a loss recently to Wyoming power house Mountain View.

Ferguson singled out three seniors for their leadership through the season: Allie Eastman, Oakley Wilson and Chelsey Brown.

“Eastman leads the state in three pointers,” Ferguson said, “and has already signed with Westminster.”

Rich dispatched the first of the region 15 opponents on Wednesday, defeating fifth ranked Wayne 51-41. The first half of the game saw the teams trading the lead and ending the second quarter tied 18-18. Rich gained six points on Wayne in the third and outscored the Badgers 17-5 in the final quarter of the game.

Eastman led the field with 23 points including two three-point baskets and was 11 of 13 from the line. Courtney Lamborn followed up with nine points, Shantae Brown chipped in seven, Wilson and Ashley Argyle added five each and Maude Peart added two more.

The quarter final game was scheduled for 7 p.m. last night against Intermountain Christian School and the winner of that game would meet the winner of the Piute, Whitehorse game at 6 p.m. today.
