The Rich High School Volleyball team had a mission this year: “A mission to continue tradition.”

Last year they lost the Utah 1A championship to Panguitch after holding that trophy for eight years. They were out to get it back and they can take great satisfaction in a mission accomplished.

To make the victory even sweeter, Rich met Panguitch again in the championship game and defeated them soundly in three short games 25-12, 25-10, 25-20. Allie Eastman was named tournament MVP and teammates Cami Barthlome, Chelsey Brown and Courtney Lamborn joined her on the all-tournament team. Barthlome was credited with 23 assists in the championship game plus 11 digs and she served for 12 points. Eastman made 20 kills with only two errors. Brown passed with 70 percent accuracy and added 12 points to the score with four aces. Lamborn, Brittany Esterholdt and Nicole Lamborn were credited with two blocks each. Defensive specialist Cassie Weston had a perfect passing record of four for four.

Rich ran across their toughest competition of the tournament in the semi-finals when they overcame Piute 25-12, 25-10 and 25-20. Eastman was in great form with 19 digs and 15 kills, with only three errors. Barthlome made 26 assists. N. Lamborn made seven blocks and Esterholdt six. C. Lamborn served 18 points.

On the first day of the tournament, Rich rolled over Monument Valley [25-5, 25-13, 25-11] and Christian Heritage [25-12, 25-10, 25-12]. Against Monument Valley, Eastman made five kills with no errors and nine digs. Maude Peart was credited with 10 digs. Courtney Lamborn made seven kill with no errors and 14 points. Esterholdt made six kills with only one error and three blocks. Mary Peart also made five kills and scored seven aces in 11 points. Barthlome assisted 17 times.

In the Christian Heritage match, Barthlome made 27 assists. C. Lamborn had a perfect passing percentage of six for six.
